Age 78, joined her beloved mother and father Mary and Joseph, on Saturday, February 11, 2012. Life long resident of Joliet and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survived by her uncle Dominic Vironda, two aunts Juliana and Emily Ballak and numerous cousins. Preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Peter and Catherine (nee Dragavon) Jursinic and numerous aunts and uncles. Educated and a graduate of St. Joseph’s grade school and St. Fransic Academy. Received a Diploma in Nursing from St. Luke’s Hospital Chicago, with honors, Class of 1955; her BSN degree with honors, University of Illinois; Master’s of Education in Counseling and Guidance, University of Illinois; Master’s of Science in Nursing, Governor’s State; MBA from the College of St. Francis. Member of the American Federation of Teachers, Sigma Theta Tau honorary nursing society Charter member of the American Critical Care Association; Who’s Who in Nursing and the Sokal Lodge, the Alumnae of St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago and University of Illinois. Joan worked as a registered nurse and served in multiple positions as Instructor at St, Joseph Hospital School of Nursing; Assistant Professor Mental Health Nursing at Illinois Wesleyan University; Instructor Medical-Surgical Nursing at Silver Cross Hospital; Instructor LPN Program (JTHS, Joliet); 18 year instructor Joliet Junior College, advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing; Continuing education for RN’s at JJC. Staff nurse positions at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cardiac Surgery, University of Illinois; Coordinator of the Critical Care Unit at Silver Cross Hospital. Resource person for Critical Care Association to China, Japan, Vietnam, Russia, Spain and Morocco. Honored by Who’s Who in Nursing, Joliet Junior College Professor Emeritus on Retirement and nominated at JJC for Teacher of the Year award. Funeral InformationFuneral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, Thursday, February 16 at 10:30 A.M. to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 8:30 AM until the time of prayers at 10:30 AM.
