Passed away at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, Thursday, December 8, 2011. Age 78 years.

Survived by her brothers and sisters Kenneth (Betty) Onken of Slayton, MN., Leslie (Birdie) Onken of Chicago, Ruth Onken of Carlyle, IL., John (Dolores) Onken of Elgin, IL., Mark (Lynn) Onken of Papau, New Guinea, Lois (Jeff) Pigg of Shattuc, IL. and Luke Onken of San Antonio, TX. A sister-in-law Judy Onken and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her first husband Russell Cundiff (1969) and her second husband Dewey Green (2001). Her son Edward (Joni) Cundiff (2001) and her brother Gerald Onken (2001). Her parents Herman and Irene Onken, her step-parents Edison and Bernice Onken.

Doris was born July 19, 1933 in Slayton, MN. She taught at St. Peter Lutheran School, was a clerk at Kroger Foods, and retired from CareCo Home Health Care after 18 years as a caregiver. Doris' faith in her Savior was always evident. Member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Doris was active in the Altar Guild, Fellowship Club, and taught Sunday school for over 25 years. She took great pride in providing care to many patients over the years, enjoyed her family history, and was a model of remarkable love as daughter, sister, wife, mother, and aunt.

Funeral Information

Lying in state at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 310 N. Broadway, Monday, December 12 from 9:30 A.M. until services at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Karl Hess officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, Sunday, from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M.
