Passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, after a long illness, with her loving family at her bedside.\r\n\r\nSurvived by her husband Dr. Sheldon S. Nicol, a daughter Diana (Ray) Myers of Bloomington, IL ., a son Paul (April) Nicol of Frankfort, IL. and her brother Tom (Judy) Hjort of Beaverton, Oregon.\r\n\r\nPreceded in death by her parents Alf and Fran Hjort.\r\n\r\nSusan was born in New Rochelle, N.Y. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Portland State University and a Masters Degree in Social Work at the University of California Berkeley. \r\n\r\nSusan married Dr. Sheldon S. Nicol, November 14, 1970 in New Rochelle, N.Y. They have resided in the Shorewood area for the past 35 years.\r\n\r\nSusan lived her life helping others as a devoted social worker, wife, mother and volunteer. She was an avid nature lover and advocate. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening.\r\n\r\nThe Nicol family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Provena St. Jospeh Medical Center Intensive Care Unit and Drs. Trager, Sosenko, Kisiel, Gulati and Woodward for their dedicated efforts on her behalf.\r\n
