Obituary

Irene Kolmodin (nee Brisco), age 92, went home to be with the Lord peacefully with her family by her side, Monday, March 26, 2018. Survived by her two daughters, Sheila (Jerry) Lundeen of Minooka and Nancy (Michael) Fiske of Joliet, six grandchildren: Brad (Jessie) Lundeen, Jeff (Sarah) Lundeen, Mandy (Jimmy) Ward, Kevin (Susan) Fiske, Mark (Erin) Fiske, and Laura Fiske, eleven great-grandchildren, her brother, Derek Brisco, and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceeded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond I. Kolmodin, her daughter, Diane Brunke, her parents, William and Elsie Brisco, and her brother, Graham Brisco. Irene was born on December 24, 1925, in Preston, England where she spent her early childhood years. Her family moved to Shropshire, near Lilleshall where she lived during World War II. Serving as a typist during the war, Irene worked at Central Ordnance Depot near her home and met her husband, an American soldier, Raymond Kolmodin. They were married on March 24, 1945, and soon after moved to America where they were blessed with 71 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife and mother, raised three daughters, and her family always came first. Irene and her husband, Ray were active in the Joliet Orchestra Parents Association and enjoyed attending their daughters' musical performances. Not only was she supportive of her own children, but she was also a faithful Nana, who encouraged each of her grandchildren (and great-grandchildren) with loving support in all their endeavors. During her lifetime, Irene worked at Liebermann's Jewelers for many years in downtown Joliet. She was a member of Willow Avenue Presbyterian Church where she was active in the women's BYKOTA group. She has been a longtime member of Joliet's First Presbyterian Church where she helped with Project Linus making blankets for children in need. In 1992, Irene became a member of P.E.O., a philanthropic educational organization. Her friends here and abroad dearly loved her, and Irene was loyally devoted to each of them. One of Irene's strongest character traits was her concern for the needs and wishes of others above her own. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to friend and caregiver, Terri Gallagher-Wood, to long-time friend, Sherry Lindstrom, and to the Joliet Area Community Hospice team. Lying in state at First Presbyterian Church, 805 Western Avenue, Tuesday, April 3, from 10:00 A.M. until service at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Dr. Craig M. Herr officiating. Entombment Woodlawn Memorial Park.
