Jessie Mejia (nee Gutierrez) - Of Crest Hill, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Age 85.
Jessie was born in Joliet on April 14, 1930 to Otilio and Julia (nee Avilia) Gutierrez.
Survived by her husband of 60 years Michael M. Mejia; two sons Joseph (Laura) of New Lenox and Dennis (Denise) of Manhattan; two daughters Patricia Mejia Ellis and Kathleen (Mark) Vitel both of Romeoville; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and her sister Ignacia Briones.
Preceded in death by her parents, a son Michael J. Mejia and a granddaughter Michelle C. Mejia Burton and several brothers and sisters.
Jessie was a lifelong Joliet Area Resident. She graduated from Joliet Central Class of 1949 and continued her education at McCormick College. She met Michael at a dance at Pioneer Gardens and they later married on July 30, 1954.
She was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church of Joliet. She loved the Lord, and had a servant's heart. Jessie enjoyed gardening and working on her crafts. In addition, she loved being with her family and entertaining.
She will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice or Judson Memorial Church will be appreciated. Visitation Monday from 4-8 PM.
