(nee Putnam) - passed away at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, Monday, January 14, 2008. Age 87 years.\r\nSurvived by her husband of 65 years Robert L. McAlister of Joliet. A son Dr. Robert (Somjit) McAlister of Anchorage, Alaska. A daughter Karen (Richard) Bratton of Sarasota, FL. Four grandchildren Carla Backitis, Stephan Schuitt, Jennifer Bratton and Andrew McAlister. Two great-grandsons. Her sister Nell Rose Coonrod of Downers Grove, IL. Also numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law.\r\nPreceded in death by her parents Harry and Margaret Putnam, a brother George Putnam and a sister Jane Putnam. \r\nNorene is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Joliet Hospitality Club, Women of the Moose, Woman's Club of Joliet, Business and Professional Club, 50 years member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Life Member of PTA. She served over 25 years in the Girl Scout Rainbow Council as troop leader, camp councilor, trainer and ultimately served as President of Trailways GirlScout Council in 1966. Retired from Joliet Public School District #86 as a secretary at Carl Sandburg, Hufford Jr. High School and Sheridan Schools.
