Passed away at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, Tuesday, January 2, 2021. Age 77 years.
Survived by his loving wife Pamela Stromsta (nee Meyer). Two children Laura (Scott Dunbar-fiance') Stromsta and Jeffery (Lucy) Stromsta. Four grandchildren Blake Dunbar, Jack, Luna Stromsta and baby on the way. His In-laws Nancy and Bill Greyer and Scott Meyer. Special aunt Dallas Sanger and numerous nieces and nephews. His friends Jim & Ernestine and many fraternal brothers and friends.
Preceded in death by son Kenneth Stromsta (2007), his parents, a brother Roger Stromsta and uncle Charles Sanger.
Al accepted Christ later in life and loyally attended Messiah Lutheran Church each Sunday. He was known for his dry sense of humor, well timed one-liners and generosity. Al enjoyed building models, crossword puzzles, was a W.W. II enthusiast and an avid Cubs and Bears fan and a soccer Dad. Al attended Onahon Elementary, Taft High School and graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Formerly worked at St. Charles Boy's School as a Social Worker and Assistant Superintendent of Operations. He was transferred to Illinois Youth Correctional Center-Joliet in 1978, where he met his wife Pam. Al retired at age 50 and worked for Attorney Search Co., substitute teacher, his favorite handy man work and full time grandpa. Founding member of AXE / Delta U fraternity at Northern Illinois University, serving as Sergeant of Arms and President.
Funeral services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 40 Houbolt Rd., Friday, February 5th at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Kurt Hoover officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials to NBIA Disorder Association or Messiah Lutheran Church will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church from 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. Social distancing and facial protocol will be followed.
