Of Joliet, passed away at Kindred

Northlake Chicago Hospital, Tuesday, August 30, 2022. Age 88 years.

Survived by her husband of 66 years John J. Hines, Jr. Her daughter

Deborah (Jim) Umbaugh of New Lenox and son Jim Hines of Joliet. Two

grandchildren Megan and Jeff Hines and great-granddaughter Madelyn

Hines.

Preceded in death by her parents William and Margaret (nee Ferguson)

Knapper. Betty was an only child and lost her mother when she was only

five years of age. She was a devoted loving wife, mother and grandmother

who was always creating a wholesome happy family she missed in her

childhood.

Betty was born May 31, 1934 in Terre Haute, Indiana. She graduated from

Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute Class of 1953. Betty and her

husband John traveled extensively with his employment having lived in

London, Mexico City, Lille, France, Madrid Spain, Brussels Belgium and

many cities in the United States. One of her biggest thrills was to fly on

the Concorde. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church,

International American Wives Club, former Girl Scout Leader and Past

President of PTA.

Lying in state at Messiah Lutheran Church, 40 Houbolt Rd. Joliet, Illinois , Wednesday,

September 7th from 11:30 A.M. until time of services at 1:00 P.M. Interment

Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to St.

Jude Research Hospital will be appreciated.
