Passed away at her residence in Crest Hill, Friday, April 16, 2021. Age 95 years.
Survived by her two daughters Cynthia Gurney of Clifton Park, NY. and Deborah Gurney of Brookfield, CT. Three grandsons Kristofer (Darcy) Ehrig, Andrew (Erin) Ehrig and Colin Ehrig. Two great- grandsons Raymond and Clark Ehrig. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Wayne Gurney (2000) and daughter Pamela Gurney(2020). Her parents Frieda Newkirk Geissler (1997) and Elmer E. Geissler (1966). Two brothers George Geissler (2008) and Elmer Geissler (2020).
Charlotte was born June 3, 1925 in Joliet. After graduating from Joliet Township High School, Charlotte joined the United States Public Health Service Cadet Nurse Corps established to train nurses for the war effort during World War II. She earned a diploma in nursing at Silver Cross Hospital and served with the Will County Public Health Department. She worked private duty nursing for a number of years until moving to the TB management department at the Will County Health Department, The TB Association and then serving as an evening nursing supervisor at Silver Cross Hospital. Always committed to support her daughters, she led Girl Scouts for many years. She actively supported church activities including serving as a Deaconess at First Presbyterian Church as well as participating in church circle.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmqiust-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Thursday, April 22th at 10:00 A.M. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials to First Presbyterian Church, 805 Western Av. Joliet will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until time of services.
