(nee Kurbis) – Passed away peacefully at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with her family by her side, Saturday, November 23, 2013. Age 73. Survived by four sons James (Linda) West Jr., Joel (Stefanie) West, Jeremy (Tammy) West and Jason (Dawn Hale) West, two daughters Cheri Ann (James) Abderhalden and Charmaine (Todd Mercer) Martin. A special daughter Eileen Martin; 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Her sister Judy Lucas. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by her parents Lee and Margaret (nee Fries) Kurbis, a sister Janet Byars, a brother Gary Kurbis, a grandson Bradley West and her former husband of 30 years James West Sr. Retired from Central Cleaners where she enjoyed all the people she met through the years. Graduate of Joliet Township high School Class of 1958, and past president of A.O. Marshall PTA. A special thank you to the staff at Sunny Hill Nursing Home and the Joliet Area Community Hospice, especially Sue for the care and compassion given to Cheryl. A very special thank you to Dr. Azeem Ahsan for the wonderful care he has given to Cheryl for the last 26 years. Cheryl was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed. Lying in state at Faith Lutheran Church, 353 N. Midland Avenue, on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 from 9:30 AM until the time of services at 10:00 A.M. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 PM.
