nee Prew) – Departed this life on January 3, 2014 at the Village of Penn State in State College, PA. Longtime Joliet resident. Survived by her son James (Nancy) McKeown of State College, PA. and daughter Patricia McKeown of Joliet. Two grandchildren Jeffrey McKeown of Los Angeles, CA. and Pamela McKeown of Owings Mill, MD. A great-grandson Zachary McKeown of Tempe, AZ. Also survived by four nephews. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles McKeown (1985), her father Marshall Prew and mother Ruth Prew Forsyth and her step-father William Forsyth. Her sister Dote Rice Vranich and Dote's husbands James Rice and Ray Vranich. Her brother and sister-in-law Paul McKeown and Doris McKeown Durell. Dara was born in Joliet to Marshall and Ruth (nee Miller) Prew. She graduated from Joliet Township High School and Joliet Junior College. Before marriage she worked at The Spectator newspaper and the Joliet Arsenal. On November 30, 1943 Dara married Lt. Charles J. McKeown, a Joliet attorney. Orders sent them to Texas and then Cleveland until the end of W.W. II. The couple returned to Joliet in 1946 where Dara enjoyed motherhood and activities with many different groups while Charles resumed his law practice. She participated in service organizations such as the Women's Club of Joliet, Childerguild of Silver Cross Hospital, PEO and First Presbyterian Church groups. She also enjoyed reading, bowling, playing golf (including a hole-in-one!), social bridge as well as traveling and all types of musical activities. In 2007 Dara moved to a retirement community in State College, PA. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 805 Western Ave. Friday, January 10, at 12:00 P.M. Rev. Dale Ambler officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials to First Presbyterian Church will be appreciated. Visitation will be held at church from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at 12:00 P.M.
