David E. Cryder

Passed away Monday, July 13, 2026 at St. Joseph Medical Center, after a long battle with esophageal cancer.

David was born April 16, 1960 to John R. and Jo (nee Manley) Cryder. He is survived by his father, his brother John M. (Julie) Cryder, his sister Carol (Alexandre) Galskoy and two step-nieces Mollie and Amy Weindorf.

Preceded in death by his mother Jo Cryder (2022).

David was educated in the Joliet Public Schools, achieving National Merit Scholar status. He attended the University of Illinois College of Engineering where he received a degree in computer engineering. He was a member of Phi Eta Sigma and Tau Beta Pi scholastic societies. He played sousaphone in the Marching Illini band and wore the largest beret (size 8 ½) on record in the organization. That record may still stand.

Following graduation, David’s work took him to many locations in various state including California, Connecticut, Michigan and Oklahoma. He specialized in working on helicopters, missiles, aircraft control systems and stock market trading software.

Memorial services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Thursday, July 30, 2026 at 6:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials to Faith Lutheran Church or your favorite charity will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 30th from 3:00 P.M. until time of services at 6:30 P.M.
