Dolores Jean Achterberg

Passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026 at the age of 93 years.

Dolores is survived by her three children John (Kathleen) Achterberg, Joyce (Larry) Lehmann and Donna (Carl) Platou. Cherished Grandma of Alison (Kevin) Carnie, Bethany (Scott) Butera, Eric (Sarah) Lehmann, Grant (Alyssa) Lehmann, Austin (Joanna) Lehmann, Spencer (Brita) Lehmann, Espen (Adrienne) Platou, Ian Platou and Alex Platou. Twelve great-grandchildren Reese and Kendall Carnie, Christopher and Alexandra Butera, Owen, Ella, Mason, Emerson, Cecilia and Jensen Lehmann, Henrik and Kelsey Platou. Her two brothers Ed (Jackie) Valek, Tom Valek and her cousin Deborah Bertolini.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years George H. Achterberg (2005). Her parents John and Josephine Valek.

Dolores was born in Joliet on July 1, 1933. She attended SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Grade School and graduated from Providence Catholic High School with the Class of 1951. For more than 20 years, she worked in the oral surgery office of Dr. Frances R. Prock.

Dolores was a founding members of Holy Family Catholic Church. Her faith, family, and the many memories she created with those she loved remained an important part of her life.

A private Funeral Mass was held, followed by interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will be appreciated.
