Surrounded by his family, Donald Cameron passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the age of 80. Don was born in Chicago, IL on June 7, 1943 to his loving parents Donald and Margaret Cameron.
He enjoyed hunting, shooting sports, and fishing, but Don dedicated his life to his passion for service, to being helpful. Don was always one of the first to volunteer, and he actively supported charitable organizations, such as the Knights of Columbus. He was deeply focused on education and training, whether it be through the Boy Scouts of America or in teaching firearm carry and safety courses, he found joy in helping others learn. He also took great pride in building programs to progress Scouting and was a key leader in revolutionizing camp activities for countless area Troops.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Elsie (Southwood) Cameron; his wonderful children: Gary (Michelle) Privett, Dawn Schwahn, Don (Gerri) Cameron, Denise Pesola, and Jeff (Michelle) Cameron; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and his dear brother Dave (Cheryl) Cameron.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Donald and Margaret Cameron; his son Mike Privett and his in-laws, Shade and Peggy Southwood.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 10:00am and will be officiated by Rev. James Dvorscak, Pastor of Saint Dennis Catholic Church, located at 1214 S. Hamilton St., Lockport, IL 60441. You may enter the church parking lot from E. 13th street between Hamilton and Washington. From the lot, you may proceed to enter the church narthex. In lieu of flowers memorials to The Boy Scouts of America will be appreciated. Funeral Services conducted by Carlson Holmquist Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory.
