– Formerly of Minooka. Passed away peacefully with his family by his side, at Presence Villa Franciscan Nursing Home, Friday, March 14, 2014. Age 83 years. Survived by his five children Dan (LuAnn) Shields, Cari Shields, Brian (Kathleen) Shields, Ami (Rick) Chignoli and Christi (Pete) Kessler; nine grandchildren Elizabeth (Mitch) Dvorak, Addie Moy, Justin (Katy) Moy, Nick and Jack Shields, Rob and Jimmy Chignoli, Milena and Aiden Kessler; three great-grandchildren Luke, Lily and Madelyn. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Marie (nee Antonucci) Shields, his infant son Pete, his parents Hugh and Hazel Shields and his sister Mary Lou (Angelo – deceased) Pellegrini. Veteran of the US Army, member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Minooka, retired from ComEd after over 30 years of service. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed woodworking and reading. Don was a devoted family man; he enjoyed time with his family and friends at the "Sunset Club" on the DuPage River. The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Falls and Presence Villa Franciscan Nursing home for the friendship and care given to Don during his stay. Funeral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 9:00 A.M. to St. Mary Catholic Church, Minooka at 10:00 A.M. for a Mass of Christian Burial. In lieu of flowers memorials to Alzheimer's Association or Joliet Area Community Hospice will be appreciated. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.
