Of Joliet, history buff, car enthusiast and avid reader, passed away, Monday, December 10, 2018 after a long illness.
Born in St. Paul, MN. In 1937, he was the oldest child of Charles and Anne Steinhauer and big brother to Carol Carland and Janet Eyrich. Don grew up in New Ulm, MN and joined the Navy after high school serving 3 years as a Navy Cryptologic Technician. He later graduated from Mankato State University and went to work for EcoLab. He fell in love with and married his one and only Susan Steinhauer (nee Granquist), with whom he celebrated many years of married life. A job transfer brought the family to Joliet in 1974 where he has resided since. Don was a man of intellect with a dry sense of humor and a bit of a grump. Loved deeply by his family, he is survived by his wife Susan, three children John Steinhauer of Jackson, GA., Frank Steinhauer of Littleton, CO. and Anne (Tim) Chakos of Bradenton, FL. Six grandchildren Rayesha Steinhauer-Olatoye and Britney Steinhauer of New York City, Alexandria Steinhauer of Jackson, GA., Maximilian Chakos, Annika Chakos and Katrina Chakos all of Bradenton, FL. Four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Don's life will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, 305 Black Road, Shorewood, Monday, December 17th at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Sunday, December 16th from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.
