Doreen's academic journey began with an undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University, followed by a master's degree in Education from LaVern College. These accomplishments paved the way for a rewarding career in teaching. For 34 years, she inspired and nurtured young minds as a second-grade teacher at Piper Grade School in Oak Park, Illinois. Her commitment to education left a lasting impact on her students and colleagues alike.

Beyond her professional life, Doreen was an active and valued member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Joliet. There, she contributed her beautiful voice to the church choir and enthusiastically participated in various church groups. Her spirited nature was further reflected in her former involvement with line dancing clubs, and her unique ability to bring joy to others was exemplified by her delightful performances as a clown. These diverse interests underscored her vibrant personality and her heartfelt desire to spread happiness.

Doreen was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore P. Hackbarth (1984) and Dorothy E. Hackbarth (nee Johnson) (1971), as well as her first husband, Roger L. Henderson (2021). She is survived by her husband, Charles R. Kuhn, a steadfast companion who stood by her side. Also honoring her memory are her sister-in-law Suzanne Hackbarth and three nephews Michael (Sharon) Hackbarth, Timothy (Amanda) Hackbarth, and Brian Hackbarth.
