Doris Kehoe Alderson
103, of Joliet, Illinois, passed peacefully away in her sleep in the early morning hours of Sunday July 24, 2022. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Doris was born on October 22, 1918 in Chicago, IL.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Henry G. Alderson; her sister, Evaleah McGraw, and her parents, Meta Bandamer and Martin Kehoe.
Doris is survived by son Daryl (Edy); daughter Susan (Michael) Fleming; grandsons, David (Ashley) and Michael (Ruby Hoyen), great-grandson, Pierce (8) and great-granddaughter, Eliza (4); nephews, Michael Siek and Douglas (Patti) Siek and cousin, LaVerne Abraham; plus several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Doris married her dancing partner, Henry in July,1941. They were together for 58 years. After 4 years, son Daryl was born. Four years later, daughter Susan was born. Doris loved being a mother and would do whatever was needed to support her children.
Volunteering at her beloved Silver Cross Hospital was Doris's other career. She gave 10,000 hours to Same Day Surgery and the Encore Shop. She was a very dedicated member of the Silver Cross Advisory Board for 51 years. She loved bringing the donuts to her "girls" at the Encore Shop. Doris was the "Donut Lady"!
Doris gave her time to many school PTA's, Matrons of First Presbyterian Church, Mary Circle at First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women and PEO.
Henry was a travel-lover and Doris willingly camped with him from coast to coast. They also traveled to numerous other countries.
Doris was an ardent Cubs fan. She traveled to Wrigley Field for the Ladies' Day games. Even more important, she was a passionate bridge player! She would play anytime, anywhere!
Doris had many, many friends whom she dearly loved. She was a true people-lover. She would begin a conversation with the person behind her in a check-out line or the other person in the waiting room with her. She had a big smile for everyone. She was a warm, loving woman who will be so missed!
On Friday, July 29, 2022, a visitation will begin at 10:00 AM to be followed by a service at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 805 Western Ave. Joliet, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Doris's name to Silver Cross Hospital, First Presbyterian Church or the United Way of Will County.
