Passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, September 8, 2013. Age 71. Survived by his loving wife of 7 years Susan McElroy; a son Derrek McElroy and a daughter Kristin Rogan. Three grandsons Connor and Braiden Rogan and Declan McElroy. His mother Mary McElroy and a sister Pam (Jim) Warwick. Three step-daughters Nicole (Adam) Donath, Michelle (Matt) Juras and Sharyl (Tim) Newman and three-step-grandchildren Colton and Cora Donath and Brody Newman. An "Uncle" to many others. Preceded in death by his father Edward C. McElroy and a brother Daniel McElroy. 50 year member of the Carpenters Union Local 174, Vice President of the American Lawmen's Motorcycle Club, member of the Newark Sportsman's Club, the NRA and the Braidwood Sportsman's Club. An avid traveler and game hunter. He enjoyed riding hi Harley and helping anyone who was in need. "Every Man Dies, but not Every Man Lives." Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. Visitation Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 P.M.
