Elizabeth " Betty" L. Neiswender (nee Johnson)
Died peacefully at Sunny Hill Nursing Home, Monday, November 25, 2024 at the age of 102 years.
Survived by her nephews Kent (Marissa) Johnson, Ted (Amy) Johnson, Glen (Deborah) Johnson and Mike (Joyce) Johnson. Her nieces Ellen (Tim Caspar) Johnson, Susan Curtis, Sherry (Bruce) Peterson, Patricia (Paul) Grimm and Sister Maureen Johnson. Also survived by twenty great nieces and nephews and eleven great-great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband William C. Neiswender (1971), her parents, nephews Keith, Carl and Dean Johnson, niece Colleen (Art) Henecke and great niece Johanna Caspar-Johnson.
Betty was born in Menomonie, Wisconsin on April 28, 1922 to J. Nevin and Cora Lee (nee Anderson) Johnson. Betty grew up in Joliet, educated in the Joliet Public Grade Schools, graduated from Joliet Township High School Class of 1940 and Joliet Junior College Class of 1942. She also took classes at St. Francis College and the Art Institute of Chicago. Betty worked briefly for E. I. DuPont during W.W. II, then in the quality control lab at Ruberoid (GAF) until her retirement. In June of 1954, she married Wm. Neiswender and for 17 years they traveled, camped and square danced across the U.S. and Canada until his passing in 1971. She then took care of her mother and continued her travels with her until 1985.
Over the years Betty volunteered her time to United Cerebral Palsy, Salem Village Nursing Home, What so ever Girls of Kings Daughters and Sons, Advisory Board of Silver Cross Hospital and New Lenox Methodist Church where she was a member. Betty's family would like to thank Sunny Hill Nursing Home for their care and compassion during the years.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Saturday, December 14th at 11:30 A..M. Rev. Wesley Dickson officiating. Interment Plainfield Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until services at 11:30 A.M.
