Obituary

Elizabeth Van Deventer (nee Gray) – On August 16, 1933, a beautiful baby girl was born to the late Elmer and Margaret (nee Baskerville) Gray. After 91 years of serving others, she was called to her eternal reward on February 28, 2025. Elizabeth will be forever loved and missed by her devoted husband, Erven and daughters Tina Van Deventer, Lisa and her husband Zoltan Mihaly, as well as her brother-in-law Harold Van Deventer. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Mary Margaret "Peg" Stanfel. Elizabeth was a devout Catholic who cared deeply about family and friends.

Her childhood years were spent in the closely knit St. Patrick neighborhood of Joliet within close proximity of an extended family which included the Henneberry's and Rowland's. She attended St. Patrick Grade School and St. Francis Academy, graduating in 1952. In high school, Elizabeth pursued her desire to help others by earning her nursing degree from St. Joseph College of Nursing. Following graduation, she began by becoming head nurse on the 8th floor of St. Joseph Hospital for many years and then assistant head nurse in their nursery.

She was an active member of the Dominick Singles Club where she met her husband, Erven. After dating for about six months, they went on a European trip and got engaged in Amsterdam, Holland. They were married on November 27, 1971. They bore two beautiful girls, Lisa and Tina. After spending several years raising their children, she decided to go back to St. Joe's and worked as assistant head nurse in the nursery for a few years and then went on to the Villa Franciscan and served as head night nurse until 1988. She then retired and her husband moved from their Shorewood home to the Shorewood Glen Del Webb community in 2012 were they both developed many new and cherished friendships.

The family would like to extend special thank you to her home health care providers, especially Lightways Hospice, and a host of others who provided comfort and care during her last days.
