Gertrude A. Alcock – passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side. Age 84 years. Gertrude was born and raised in the Philippines, moving to Chicago in 1965 and stayed in the Chicago area for the remainder of her life. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years Edward J. Alcock her sons Daniel (Irma) Alcock, Edward (Hyeyon) Alcock, Brian Alcock, daughters Gineen (Mark) Vargas and Nerry (Eric) Graefen; brothers Santiago and Silvestre Ampongan, her adopted sister Elena, her loving cousin Cresenciana Absalon-Baginski and her beloved grandchildren Mark Vargas Jr., Erick and Jordan Vargas, Christopher, Jessica, Nicholas, Kevin, Hailey and Alyssa Alcock, Elizabeth (Tanner) Clements, Lindsey Graefen and Edward and Hanna Alcock. Preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Januaria Ampongan, an infant child at birth, her sister Matilde and brothers Eugenio, Daniel, David Ampongan. Gertrude was a skilled seamstress, enjoyed making clothes for herself and her family, an avid gardener and beautician, she was happily known as a jack of all trades. She will be remembered for her smile, contagious giggle and great sense of humor. This kind loving woman that could blow a kiss across the room will be missed deeply. . Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Road, Monday, October 2nd at 11:00. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to The Friends of Sunny Hill The Road to Freedom Bus. Visitation will be held Monday, from 9:00 A.M. until service at 11:00 A.M.
