Gertrude Lucille (nee Hoefer) Erickson - Passed away peacefully at Rock Run Place Memory Care, Thursday, January 4, 2018. Age 93 years. Survived by a son Laurence Alan (Joy Lynn Schiek) Erickson and a daughter Teryl L. (Richard) Rettberg. Six grandchildren Adam (Amy) Rettberg, Elsa (Brad) Gould, Leah (Jonathan) Allred, Amanda (Brad) Boyd, Martha Erickson and Rylan (Krysten) Erickson. Numerous great-grandchildren; and one sister Rachel M. Shonkwiler. Preceded in death by her husband Leonard Erickson, sister Ruth N. (Hoefer) Eggman, brother Richard E. Hoefer, infant sister Sally J. Hoefer and her parents Ernest and Gertrude (nee Colgan) Hoefer. Gertrude was born July 5, 1924 in Joliet. Graduate of Joliet Township High School class of 1942 and attended Joliet Junior College. She worked many years for Calvert Brothers Maytag, a job she loved. She retired from Argonne National Laboratory in 1985. Member of Grace United Methodist Church and former member of Richards Street United Methodist Church. Gertrude will be remembered by her family as a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Private interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date.
