Gordon M. Newcomb
Passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice Home, Sunday, July 14, 2024 at the age of 83 years.
Gordon is survived by his son Steven Newcomb of Minooka, two granddaughters Lauren and Scarlett McPhillips-Newcomb of Minooka and grandson Griffin (Courtney-fiance) Newcomb. His sister Madeline Webb.
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Hester M. Newcomb (nee Sirvidas)(2018), their son Keith Newcomb (2002) and his brother Vernon Newcomb.
Gordon was born July 11, 1941 in Chicago to the late Louis A. and Josephine F. Newcomb. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School and later in life obtained his Associates degree. Gordon married Hester in 1966 and moved to Elk Grove Village for 25 years while raising their sons. They later moved to Bolingbrook and finally Joliet. Gordon retired as a trainer with Vactor Manufacturing in Streator and was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.
An avid fisherman and hunter, Gordon was a member of Salmon Unlimited and cherished his time spent on outdoor adventures. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play golf and volleyball and treasured summers at the family lake house in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. One of his lifelong dreams was fulfilled when he became a charter boat captain on Lake Michigan, creating many memorable summer fishing trips.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Saturday, August 3rd from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 A.M.
