Died suddenly on June 1, 2006 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center.\r\nThe daughter of Marguerite (1985) and Henry Hammel (1966), she was born on November 9, 1923 in Joliet, IL. Loving sister of Henry Hammel (1923), Mary (1985) (Richard) Davis, Nancy (Jeremiah) Shea and Marge (James) Markelz.\r\nOn June 22, 1947 she married George W. Buck (1955) at St. John Church. Her cherished sons George (Joann), Thomas (Kathy) and Timothy Buck live and work in Joliet.\r\nWhile still working full-time at Unite Step Co., she took time to enjoy the outdoors with her horses, gardening, bird-watching and canoeing. She shared her love of the Gavican Farm with her grandchildren George, Joseph, Kimberly, Brian (1990), Sarah, Laura Buck and Colleen (Eric) Fitts. Joan and son Timothy cherished living on the farm for the past 20 years. Joan enjoyed monthly lunches with the Braun and Hammel cousins as well as meetings with the Joliet Township High School class of 1941, of which she was class treasurer. She graduated from the University of Chicago.\r\nAttending mass daily for over 60 years, visiting the sick, lectoring and singing in the St. Rose Parish choir were some of the expressions of her strong faith.\r\nJoan will be remembered for her love of life, constant energy and her devotion to her sons and family.
