Of Joliet and Shorewood, formerly of Minnesota, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the age of 92 years.

Survived by his devoted and loving wife of 57 years Lydia L. O'Donnell (nee Thurber). Four daughters Kaylin (Mike) Boudewyns, Jan Korn, Pam (Brian) Eigenheer and Shanda (Alex Romano) O'Donnell. Two sons Thomas (Cindy) Korn and Brian (Michelle) O'Donnell. Sixteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Two brothers Michael and Richard O'Donnell.

Preceded in death by his parents Robert Emmet and Eleanor (nee Harlin) O'Donnell, two brothers John Patrick and Robert E. O'Donnell, Jr., a sister Betty Neil Shaughnessy and grandson Keegan Boudewyns.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, "Papa Jim" was a man of honor, strength and unwavering love.

Born on May 15, 1932 in Mound, Minnesota. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army, dedicating his life to protecting his country with courage and integrity. His service was a testament to his deep sense of duty and patriotism, values he carried with him long after his time in uniform.

Jim was the heart of his family, always providing guidance, warmth and unwavering support. Whether sharing stories, teaching life lesson or simply spending time with loved ones, Jim had a way of making everyone feel valued and cherished. His kindness, wisdom and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  Though he left this world, his legacy of love, his honor to his Irish heritage and his passion for fishing and gardening will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. Jim was a supporter and fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Notre Dame football teams. Jim's family would like to extend their appreciation to Residential Hospice, especially his nurses Tyler and Tricia, for their care and compassion with Jim.

Rest in peace Jim, your duty is done and your love remains with us always.

"May your day be touched by a bit of Irish Luck, brightened by a song in your heart and warmed by the smiles of the people you love"
