Heinz A. Sewing

Of Elwood, passed away at Lightways Hospice, Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at the age of 96 years.

Heinz A Sewing was born March 16, 1930, to Julius and Clara (nee Volkaenand) Sewing. Heinz was baptized into the Christian faith and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Joliet, IL. Heinz also attended St. Peter Lutheran School through 8th grade. Heinz then attended Joliet Central High School graduating in 1948. Heinz and his father were dairy farmers in Elwood. Heinz loved the land, and the animals, all which are a part of God’s creation. Heinz’s Christian faith was a vital part of who he was. He had genuine love for his Savior, his family and his friends. He never shied away from talking to people and bringing them joy. He will be remembered for his bright smile and jovial laughter. On December 15, 1951, Heinz entered into marriage with Carol (nee Gray). This marriage was blessed with 9 children. Heinz continued to dairy farm until 1976. Heinz was then employed at Olin Chemical for several years. He also continued to farm, even raising beefalo for a few years. When most of the farm was sold, he continued his interest in farming and gardening. At the time of his passing, Heinz was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Lenox.

He is survived by seven children Heidi McWilliams, Christine Ford, Rev. David (Nancy) Sewing, Timothy (Patty) Sewing, Paul Sewing, Nancy Vaira and Diane Sewing; Sixteen grandchildren: Sarah McWillaims, Chad (Kim) McWilliams, Julia (Nate) Karlson, Steven (Jackie) Ford, Mark Sewing, Scott (Hope) Sewing, Thomas Sewing, Joy (Matt) Griepentrog, Jeffery (Jenny Davis) Sewing, Emily (WesYoung) Sewing, Karolyn (Jake) Jarodsky, Connor (Amanda) Sewing, Samantha Vaira, Lindsey Vaira and Gregory Honiotes. 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Heinz was preceded in death by his wife Carol J. Sewing, son Heinz Sewing, Jr., daughter Elisabeth Hayes, grandson Kyle McWilliams, granddaughter Colleen Allen, and granddaughter-in-law Kristi Sewing.

Memorial services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 N. Cedar Road, New Lenox, Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. Rev. Douglas E. Hoag officiating. Inurnment at Elmhurst Cemetery. Visitation will be held at church on Saturday, August 22nd from 10:00 A.M. until time of services.
