Of Joliet, passed away peacefully at his residence, Wednesday, April 6, 2022. Age 89 years.
Herb is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Kathleen (nee Davidson) Harmon of Joliet, daughter Kelli Harmon of Arkansas, three stepsons Michael (Mariclair) Fitzgerald of Tinley Park and Craig (Paula) Fitzgerald of Portland, Oregon, and Todd (Becca) Fitzgerald of LaGrange Highlands. Ten grandchildren Connor Fitzgerald, Marah Fitzgerald, Tegan Fitzgerald, Luke Fitzgerald, Nora Fitzgerald, Aileen Fitzgerald, Claire Fitzgerald, Noah Fitzgerald, Nathan Fitzgerald and Benjamin Fitzgerald.
He is preceded in death by his parents Russell and Evelyn Harmon, two sisters Doris Mauseth, and Wilma Maben, two brothers William "Bud" Harmon and Francis Harmon and his daughter Vicki Harmon.
Herb was born in Limon, Colorado on January 6, 1933, the son of the late Russell J. and Evelyn M. (nee Johnson) Harmon. He graduated from Limon High School with the Class of 1950. Herb was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart.
Herb worked in the construction industry his whole life, traveling the world to work on construction projects in Saudi Arabia, Alaska, and Texas among other places. He loved to play golf, garden, traveling with his wife and spending time with his 10 grandchildren often going to see their sporting events.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Doris Mauseth, and Wilma Maben; brothers William "Bud" Harmon and Francis Harmon and his daughter Vicki Harmon.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmqiust-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, Tuesday, April 12th at 11:00 A.M. Inurnment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held Monday, April 11th from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will be appreciated.
