Age 76, resident of Joliet since 1962. Born in Freeport, Il. And spent his childhood on a farm near Rock City, Il. Passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home, Thursday, October 31, 2013. Survived by his wife Ruth (of 53 years); four son, Jason of Los Angeles CA, Scott (Kathy) of Shorewood, Il. Tom (Lydia) of Rio Rancho NM, and Bill (Meg) of Chicago, Il; five grandchildren, Ryan, Eric, Abbey, Megan and Elana; sister (Carolyn Holste), and brother (Dennis); and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins also survive. Preceded in death by his father Eden and mother Amy. Jack was a wonderful husband and care-helper to his wife, a father and a grandfather "Papa", he particularly enjoyed special events and celebrations with his family. Never lacking in energy, conversation, curiosity and recollection. A loving and generous encourager and cheerleader to his family and others. A student at the University of Illinois and graduate of North Central College ('61), he worked for Caterpillar at the Aurora and Joliet plants in data processing for 35+ years, and continued to service local customers as a computer consultant and proprietor of his own computer business. Recognized around the community as an accomplished runner and bicyclist, many might have run or cycled with him, or seen him run or walk through his Joliet neighborhood. Formerly active as a marathoner, including multiple completions of the Boston, NY, and Chicago marathons, among others. With the Joliet YMCA, 1970's founder of the Joliet Bicycle Club, and Illinois representative to the League of American Wheelmen, always enjoying his time running, touring or competing. Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 12:00 P.M. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park . In lieu of flowers, memorials to American Diabetes Association or donors choice, would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of services at 12:00 P.M.
