Age 56 of Elwood passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, January 29, 2021. Born April 8, 1964 in LaFollette, Tennessee. Jimmy was the oldest son of Lawrence and Deloris (Smith) Daugherty. Educated at Laraway Grade School and graduating class of 1982 from Joliet East High School. Jimmy married his high school sweetheart Cheryl Johnson on February 15, 1985. Jimmy was a lifetime member of Prince of Peace Church in Joliet. He enjoyed playing video games and listening to Southern Gospel Music. Jimmy was a friend to all, and could make friends wherever he went. Survivors include: his wife Cheryl of Elwood; three children Anthony (Andrea) Daugherty of Joliet, Daniel Daugherty of Elwood and Erin (Joshua) Williams of Hobart, IN; three grandchildren Ethan and Olivia Williams and Dylan Daugherty; five step grandchildren TJ Smith, Dalilah, Saya, Alisa and Daphne Myers; father Lawrence Daugherty of Joliet; two siblings Laura (Frank) Johnston of Morris and Matthew (Sabrina) Daugherty of Franklin Park; mother in law Linda Johnson of Joliet; his faithful K9 companion Ella; 1 nephew, 2 nieces and numerous cousins and friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother Deloris Daugherty; maternal grandparents LC Smith and Juanita Hudson; paternal grandparents Daniel and Birdie Daugherty and Father in law John Johnson. Private family service will be held with a public memorial service to be scheduled by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to Joliet Hospice or the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois.
