Obituary

Of Rockdale, passed away at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, Monday, March 6, 2023. Age 83 years.

Survived by his wife of 55 years Dorothy A. Rys (nee LaVezzi), their three children Eric Rys, Amy (Otto) Schlesinger and Max Rys. Four grandchildren Tyler and Jamie Rys, Ian and River Christenson.

Preceded in death by his parents James and Josephine Rys, his sister June Giestlinger and his half-sisters Alice Placek and Edith Bejcek.

Jim was a motorcycle enthusiast, whether it was riding, racing, building or painting them. He was an artist that was always drawing or coloring something. Jim worked with the Iron Workers Union Local 444. Veteran of the U.S. Army. Jim also enjoyed celebrating his birthday as often as someone would buy him a drink.

Visitation will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Road, Monday, March 13th from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. Private internment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery In lieu of flowers memorials to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Honor Guard will be appreciated.
