Janet L. Berg

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at the age of 91.

Born and raised in Joliet, Janet graduated from Joliet Township High School before pursuing her nursing education at Silver Cross Hospital School of Nursing. She dedicated her life to caring for others, working as a registered nurse for many years at both Silver Cross Hospital and Caterpillar before retiring. Whether at work or in her own neighborhood, Janet was known for her compassionate heart and willingness to care for anyone in need. To many, she was simply “the neighborhood nurse” and a second mother.

Janet was a lifelong member of Ingalls Park United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served as a youth group leader and a member of the parish council. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering devotion touched countless lives through both her church and her community.

Above all, Janet cherished her family. She is survived by her children, Kimberly (Michael) Mancuso, Dawn Berg, and Jeffrey (Deanna) Berg. She leaves behind the greatest loves of her life, ten beloved grandchildren: Nick (April) Mancuso, Jason (Haley) Berg, Joshua Wynn, Michael (Shera) Mancuso, Paul Sowa, Tyler (Amanda) Mancuso, Myles (Janelle) Berg, Jalea (Cody) DeGrush, Gina (Jake) Murphy, and Haley (Nathan) Bilthius. She was also blessed with 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Janet is also survived by her sister, Kay (Donald) Koppen, her brother, James (Debbie) Speicher; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald L. Berg, her parents Vernon and Betty Speicher, her brother Vernon Speicher, her sister Carol (Ken) Goody, her brother-in-law Lawrence (Carol) Berg Jr., sister-in-law Janet Speicher and step father Ed Haberski.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Lightways Hospice for the exceptional care, comfort, and kindness they provided Janet during her final days.

A private inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials to Lightways Hospice or Ingalls Park United Methodist Church would be appreciated.
