Jean L. Smietanski (nee Musich)
Of Lockport, passed away peacefully at Silver Cross Hospital on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the age of 85..
Jean leaves behind her devoted husband of 61 years, Robert W. Smietanski, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and family. She was the cherished mother of Robert J. (Kari) Smietanski of Mt. Carroll, IL, and Kimberly A. (Justin Dilitkanich) Smietanski of Lockport. Jean was a proud and loving grandmother to Kaittlin (Mike) Dickinson, Matthew (Maura) Larsen, Mitchell (Hannah) Larsen, Evan (Allie) Smietanski, and Kyle Smietanski. Beloved "Gigi" to her five great-grandchildren: Jaxon Dickinson, Preston Dickinson, Estelle Dickinson, Alice Larsen, and Clara Larsen. She is also survived by her brother James Musich of Galena and sister-in-law Carole Musich.
Preceded in death by her parents Don and Gladys (nee Emerson) Musich and her brother Robert Musich.
Born on August 4, 1940, in Joliet, Jean grew up in Lockport and remained rooted in the community she loved. A graduate of Lockport Township High School, Class of 1958, she carried the values of friendship, service, and kindness with her throughout her life. Jean was a longtime and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Joliet, where she served as a Deacon. She was also proud to be part of PEO International Philanthropic Sisterhood of Women, an organization whose mission mirrored her generous and supportive spirit.
Jean found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially spending time with her family and trying her luck at video poker at the Joliet casinos. Above all, she was the heart and anchor of her family. As their Matriarch, she delighted in every milestone and cherished every moment shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
