Passed away at Sunny Hill Nursing Home, Thursday, December 21, 2017. Age 89 years.
Survived by her devoted husband of 66 years Elmer E. Geissler, daughter Lynn (Kevin) Klatt of Menomonie, WI. and son David (Jayne) Geissler of Greenville, NC. Six grandchildren Kyle, Abra and Kevin (Katie) Geissler, Leslie (Josh) Schmidt, Ross (Heather) Klatt and Blade Klatt. Three great-grandchildren Kennedy Geissler, Kendra and Kaleb Schmidt. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a daughter Ann E. Weishaar (1985), Her parents two brothers Edward and John Hollister and a sister Vivienne Stoner.
Joan was born April 8, 1928 in Willow Springs, IL. to Edward M. and Grace Hollister. Graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1945 and Illinois State University. Joan married her high school sweetheart Elmer E. Geissler on June 23, 1951. Joan retired from the Union School District where she was School Superintendent from 1962 – 1987. Member of Joliet Women's Club, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), served on the Trailways Girl Scout Counsel for many years and was a volunteer with Joliet Area Community Hospice from 1992 – 2012. Volunteer at Silver Cross Hospital with over 9100 hours of volunteering. Member of Central Presbyterian Church since 1946.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd, Wednesday, December 27th at 12:00 PM. Rev. Jack Berghorst officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice, Friends of SunnyHill Nursing Home or Central Presbyterian Church will be appreciated. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 26th from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M.
