JoAnn McBride

Of Joliet, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Ascension Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village. She was 85 years old.

She is survived by her loving children Sally (Jim) Knudsen, Chris (Dawn) McBride and Kathy (Tim) Mattern. Her six cherished grandchildren Cameron and Soren Knudsen, Emma (Dylan) Hastings, Ean McBride, and Jacob and Samantha Mattern. Her sister Patricia Barkley and her brother-in-law Robert Cecchi. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her beloved husband John “Jack” J. McBride Jr. (2016), her parents Dallas and Dolores Spencer and her sister-in-law Kathy Cecchi.

Born on November 21, 1940 in Lansing, Michigan, JoAnn graduated from Northern Illinois University and dedicated her career to education. She taught for Joliet Public Schools District 86 until her retirement, positively influencing the lives of countless students throughout her years in the classroom.

JoAnn was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, serving on several committees. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and quilting. For more than 19 years, she faithfully volunteered at St. Joseph Medical Center, generously sharing her time and desire to help others.

Memorial visitation will be held at Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Road, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorials in JoAnn’s name to Project Linus or a charity of your choice will be appreciated.
