John R. Cislaghi
Age 96, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Lightways Hospice Home (formerly Joliet Area Hospice).
John was born on July 7, 1924 to John and Josephine (nee Erutti) Cislaghi. He attended Eliza Kelly, Washington Jr. High and Joliet Township High School. He proudly served in the Army Air Corps for three years during W.W. II. During that time he spent time in the USA, Darwin and Townsville in Australia, Lae in Papua New Guinea, the Philippine's and Yokahama, Japan.
Upon his return home from the war, John became a Pipefitter for Local 597, working in the construction industry building power plants, oil refineries and many industrial factories.
In 1946, John became a proud member of Stone City Post VFW # 2199 and later became a Life-Member and held the proud distinction of being the oldest and longest life-member of Stone City Post.
John married the former Louisa Losa at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on September 12, 1959 and were married for 54 years until she died in 2013. John and Louisa loved to travel, visiting Italy several times and enjoying all the sights of Rome, the Vatican, Florence, Venice, Isle of Capri and cable car crossing from the Helbronner to Chamonix over The Mer of Glace. In addition, they visited Switzerland, France, Spain, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Panama Canal and Mexico.
He switched occupations and went to work for Richard B. Vance as an Account Executive (Stock Broker), assisting clients with their investments and during his tenure he became President of the Company and later assumed the position of Chairman of the Board.
On October 12, 2011 he enjoyed participating in the Honor Flight to Washington DC with fellow veterans. He described the trip as "Awesome" and he felt like a "King for a Day".
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louisa; his parents; brother, Emil and an infant sister, Doris.
He is survived by cousins, Leonard and Jennie Erutti, Eleanora Erutti and Arnold and Teresa Erutti. Dear friends Kent and Gail King; Kathy and Dave Spangler, Barb and Roger Seppi, Jane and Chuck Corso, Jim and Theresa Kerr, as well as, many other dear friends and neighbors.
Visitation for John R. Cislaghi will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM. Interment and full military honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
In accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, all attending the visitation and service will be required to properly wear a facial mask and observe social distancing.
