Obituary

John Edward Favero age 89, passed away peacefully January 5, 2021, at his daughter Connie's home with both of his daughters with him. John was born in Coal City, IL on April 23, 1931, the son of John and Emma (Novy) Favero. He graduated in the top of his class from Coal City High School, received a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences with High Honors in Political Science in 1953 and a Bachelor of Law in 1955 both from the University of Illinois. He was admitted to the Illinois bar in a ceremony before the Illinois Supreme court in 1955. John served his country in the U.S. Army. He was drafted and was in the Army on active duty from June 1956 – June 1958. After active duty, he was in the ready reserve and then the standby reserve. Beloved husband of 47 years to Joyce (nee Hartney) who preceded him in death in 2007. Survived by his two daughters Constance (Wesley) Russell and Cheryl (Christina) Wheeler. After working for 39 years, John retired from Allstate in 1994, as the Midwest Field Coordinator of the Allstate Motor Club. He was always an active supporter of his daughters' interests attending sporting events, music events, and school activities. John was a Laraway School band parent and served on the Laraway School Board from 1972-1981. His two favorite hobbies were gardening and woodworking. He enjoyed sharing the produce from his vegetable gardens with neighbors. He created a new wooden Christmas ornament each year which donned the trees of many family members and friends. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral services and interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery will be held privately by the family on Tuesday, January 12, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Fisher School in Joliet for materials for the Favero Family Library or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home and Crematory of Joliet.
