John Shaw Jurica, age 85, left this world behind while under the loving care of family on January 15, 2019 in Joliet, Illinois. John was born on November 2, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois, to parents John and Pearl Jurica. He married his lifelong sweetheart, Vicky (Sorrentino) Jurica, on May 1, 1954. Together they raised their 10 children in Niles, Illinois. In 2000 they retired to Joliet, Illinois where hardly a day went by without a visit from their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many things could be said about John's hobbies and loves. He was a master bargainer and flea marketer extraordinaire. He was an avid fisherman and card shark. He was a whirligig maker, and pizza baker, a jokester and storyteller. Mostly, John was a loving husband, a proud father and exceptional grandfather, brother and friend. He taught many how to tie hooks, fry fish, pinch pennies, all while expounding on the topics of the day's news or simply enjoying cabin life in the Northwoods of Minnesota. John's wit and stories will be greatly missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his 10 children: John (Kay) Jurica, Cathy (Kurt) Luhrsen, Julia (James) Revelle, Cindy (Brian) Lucca, JoAnn Borre, Chris Jurica, Jacqueline Wykowski, Carla (Fred) Goldschmidt, Jay (Lynda) Jurica, and Carol (Tyson) Frenzel; along with 29 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; sisters Vivian Kuhns, Dolores Kornfeind, and Joyce Alpert, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by Vicky, his wife of 64 years; his parents; sister Marilyn Jurica, and brother, Steven Jurica. John spent most of the last few years lovingly caring for his ailing wife Vicky. The two were inseparable in life. Now they will be inseparable in eternity. On January 15th, John went to sleep for the last time, only to awaken in the presence of God. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, January 20th from 4-6 pm with a sharing time from 6-7 pm. Visitation on Monday, January 21st at 10:00 am with Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 am at Pathway Church 19554 NW Frontage Rd., Shorewood, IL 60404. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Pathway Church or Joliet Hospice in honor of John Jurica.
