John G. Yorkin
94, of Junction City, Illinois, born on Dec. 10, 1930, in San-doval Township, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his home on May 25, 2025.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Korea. He was employed with the electro-motive division at General Motors for 30 years and retired on Jan. 1, 1986. He also worked at Rovanco Piping Systems in Joliet, Illinois for 14 years. John was a prolific piano player who never had any lessons, and learned to play by ear. He was also an avid photographer and videographer who helped document his family's history with photo's, slides, and 8mm films spanning many decades.
Mr. Yorkin was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Violet Yorkin, his sister Donna Schaefer, best friend Francis Smolich (Buddy), numerous stepchildren, and a special love of his life Margaret Anderson.
He is survived by his sister Josephine Yorkin, stepdaughter Cheryl Smolich, step-grandchildren Eric Smolich and Joy Conley (Smolich), close nephew Darrell (Clara) Schaefer, and numerous nieces and nephews, Jeff (Denise) Schaefer, Terri Ingles, Tony Ingles, and Teddy Ingles. As well as his great niece and nephew Maranda and Cody.
John was very grateful to extended family members Sandy and Henry Burla for bringing him many home cooked meals over the past 5 years.
A private ceremony will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carlson Holmquist Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory.
