Joseph E.
May
August 28, 1924 – April 17, 2023
Joseph E. May
Age 98 years, passed away peacefully on Monday April 17, 2023 at his late residence in
Shorewood, Illinois
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 28, 1924, to parents Joseph and Elizabeth, the
third child in a large family of three boys and five girls.
Joseph was preceded in death by first wife Theresa (Née Fiel), second wife Dolly Mildred
(Née Janosko), and daughter Margaret (Peggy) May.
He is survived by son William (Carol) May; grandchildren Margaret (Mardi) May;
Daniel Ronczkowski; Melissa Aud-Headlee; and great grandchildren Austin, Colton,
Joseph, Anna, DJ, Valerie, Vincent, Carter, and great great grandchild to come, Ozzy.
He proudly served in the US Army as a Sargent during W.W.II and was the recipient of 4
Bronze Stars and more accommodations. When he moved to Shorewood in 2014, he
became active in the Shorewood Glen Veterans Group, and enjoyed participating in
parades and celebrations, and attended the honor flight. On November 21, 2022 Joe was
honored by Troy township community by being inducted into THE DONALD D. WALDEN
VETERANS HONOR ROLL
Additionally, Joe will be celebrated by the Village of Shorewood on Memorial Day this
year, with a Veteran's Memorial brick installed, as well as a banner flown for the
"Hometown Heroes" program. Look for his military photo banner sometime between
May and December flying on a decorative light post in Shorewood.
Joe was an accomplished businessman, family and friend oriented throughout his life. He
inspired so many to be their best, because he led by example, and "walked the talk", as
he would say.
