Joseph L. Skuban Jr.
"Scrappy"
Age 87 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Rock Run Place with his loving family at his side. He was born on April 11, 1929 to the late Joseph Sr. and Mary (Zrncik) Skuban. He lived his life in Joliet except for the years he served in Germany with the US Army's 432nd Engineering Construction Battalion Company. Joseph was baptized at SS Cyril and Methodius Church in Joliet and later was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Church of St. Anthony.
Joe married Shirline Yedlicka on June 24, 1951 at St. Edmund's Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Joe was a 40+ year member of the Midwest Operating Engineers Local 150, having been employed by several local construction companies as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. He was a life-member of Stone City VFW
Post # 2199, a past member of the Joliet Moose Lodge # 300 and a past member of the South Wilmington's Beach club. Joe was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling. He loved spending time in the summer with his family, boating, skiing, camping and fishing. He enjoyed playing bingo and video poker. Most of all, he loved searching flea markets for antiques.
Preceded in death by brother-in-law and dear friend, LaVerne Bersano; his brothers, Martin (Lorraine Slabozeski) Skuban; sisters, Ann (Harry) Serena, Mary (Karl) Riggs, Cecilia (Robert) Buldak and Agnes (George) Olha; his brothers-in-law, Robert Riel, Emil Hinton and Anthony Yedlicka.
Survived by his wife Shirley, a truly devoted father to his daughter, Linda; his sisters, Lucille Riel and Patricia Hinton; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Bersano and Donna (George) Bexson; several nieces, nephews and special friends.
Visitation will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home and Crematory, 2320 Black Road on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 3 to 6 pm and then on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with funeral services on Monday morning in the funeral home chapel at 10:00 am. Interment Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
