Karen Marie (Kowalczyk) Wilson, born on February 3, 1955, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024.
She was a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, whose life was marked by dedication to her family and her profession.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, brother, son, and daughter.
She is survived by her devoted husband Warren Wilson, two brothers and numerous nieces and a nephew.
A graduate of Joliet Junior College, Karen earned an associate degree in nursing, embarking on a career that spanned several decades. She served as a Registered Nurse at St. Joe's in Joliet, Gilmore County Hospital in Ellijay, Georgia, and concluded her career with over 20 years of dedicated service as an ICU nurse at Hilton Head Island Hospital. Her compassion and commitment to patient care left a lasting impact on colleagues and patients alike. Karen had a profound love for animals, especially her horses and cats, which brought her immense joy throughout her life. She and her husband were active members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary - Flotilla 071011, reflecting their shared passion for service and community involvement. Additionally, Karen held an amateur radio license, showcasing her diverse interests and talents.
Her final resting place will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Karen's name to Pink Heals-Joliet Chapter. Karen's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will be remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
