Obituary

Kenneth "Ken" P. Parker, Sr. - Passed away at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, Saturday, September 14, 2013. Age 92 years. Survived by his loving wife of 68 years Myrita Helen Parker (nee Milligan). Three sons Kenneth "Kent" P. Parker, Jr. of San Jose, CA., Dave (Sue Treharne-Parker) Parker of Plainfield and Mark (Susan) Parker of New Hartford, IA. A daughter Myrita Ellen Craig of Cincinnati, OH. Five grandchildren Myrita Elizabeth Craig, Fred Craig III, Marc Parker, Ellie Parker and Carson Parker. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his two brothers Francis "Salty" (Thelma) Parker and Charles (Helene) Parker. Veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Navy landing on the beach at Normandy on D-Day. Former co-owner of KenWoody Sports Shop. Ken was a teacher and coach at Joliet Township High School and Athletic Director at Joliet Junior College and Joliet Township High School. He received his Bachelor and Master's Degree in Education from University of Illinois at Champaign. Ken played on the legendary "Whiz Kids" basketball team. Ken was a devoted family man to his wife, children and grandchildren. He truly enjoyed meeting the retired teacher friends on Wednesday mornings for breakfast at Old Fashion Pancake House. Funeral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Thursday, September 19th at 9:30 A.M. to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 Woodlawn Ave. at 10:00 A.M. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Memorials to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice will be appreciated. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:00 – 8:00 P.M.
