August 28, 1972 – June 29, 2024
Passed away unexpectedly, Saturday June 29, 2024 at his family home. Age 51.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 19 years Amy Theresia (nee Billapando), his parents Larry and Charlotte Hargis, his brothers Lawrence Hargis, Michael Hargis and sister Judy (Kurt) Sedlacek. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved in-laws Ronald and Catherine Szarzynski.
He was a member of Alpha Delta Nu National Honor Society for Associate Degree Nursing Programs, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, National Association of EMS Educators, National Association of EMT's, International Association of Firefighters and Illinois Society of Fire Service Instructors.
Kevin was a devoted husband who loved the outdoors and traveling with his wife Amy and their dogs. He had a passion for helping people, whether it was through his work as a Registered Nurse, Paramedic, Fire Fighter or teaching CPR, he was always there to help. This is evident in his pursuit to always learn more about the field of Applied Sciences. Kevin began his career with the Justice Fire Department in 1992, and a few years with Pleasantview Fire Department before he began his career with the Joliet Fire Department as part of the Academy Class of 2002. He worked tirelessly through the ranks and became Captain. He was bid at Station 7 where he performed all his duties with his dedicated crew. Kevin had a very light-hearted personality, always referring to his friends and colleagues as "Big Buddy", earning him that nickname. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Tuesday, July 9th at 9:30 A.M. to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 North Raynor Avenue at 10:00 A.M. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park II. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8PM.
