Lawrence Alan Olszowka – passed away peacefully, Sunday June 9, 2024 at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara (Faillo) Olszowka, proud father to Julie (Mario) Garcia, Jason (Arielle) Olszowka, loving grandfather to Alexis Kruczak, Alex Garcia, Angel Garcia, Grayson, Laken, Vaeda and Merrick Olszowka and great-grandfather to Kinsley and Kohen.

Larry was born in Chicago to Ted and Virginia Olszowka in May of 1950. He graduated high school in 1970. He met his high school sweetheart, Barbara on the CB radio and they married in July of 1971. He joined the Army National Guard after graduation and served for 6 years. Larry retired from General Motors-Electro-Motive Division in 2008.

Larry loved Nascar and Indy racing and was a collector of all types of racing memorabilia displayed in his garage that he loved and enjoyed. Larry was an organized and sometimes on the border of being OCD. He was always very thoughtful and hospitable and loved his 4th of July parties with family and friends with lots of fireworks.

Larry had a passion for aviation. He had a collection of remote-control helicopters and model airplanes which he displayed with his racing memorabilia, he also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday June 14, 2024 at 1:30 PM at the Carlson Holmquist Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory 2320 Black Road, Joliet. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of services.
