Obituary

Lester R. Hareld – passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, May 26, 2022. Age 88 years. Survived by his three sons Tim Hareld of Coal City, IL, Alan Hareld of Joliet, IL and Mike (Melissa) Hareld of Crest Hill, IL. Five grandchildren Tim, Mike Jr. and Matt (Brittany) Hareld, Megan (Justin) Johnson and Molly Champion. Five great-grandchildren Paisley, Sloane, Julian, Autumn and Jacy. And one sister Doris Richardson of Shorewood, IL. Preceded in death by his wife Carol L. Hareld, parents Lester and Irene (Loose) Hareld and sisters Grace Larsen and Jean Hareld. Lester retired from Com Ed as an Underground Foreman after 42yrs, of service. Lester and Carol lived in the house they built together for 67 yrs. He was a founding member of CECO Recreation Club where in his younger years he and his family would camp, swim and fish nearly every week in the summer, going to work from the club and returning after work. It was here that he taught his sons how to fish and hunt. He loved the outdoors and trees. He wouldn't hesitate to purchase a tree that he saw and liked, worrying later where he would plant it. Lester loved his family. Visits from his great-grandchildren and celebration of their birthdays was very special to him. He loved to travel. He and Carol went on numerous cruises to the Caribbean, Hawaii and British Isles. For many years he and his son Alan would head north on the spring fishing trip to Lake Vermilion with special friends Chuck Harris and son Paul. Les and Chuck would always "split" a beer. Lester loved to trap shoot, often traveling to state shoots of surrounding states as well as Arizona and Florida. He enjoyed his spring trips to Laughlin, NV where he could enjoy the sunny, warm days swimming and then enjoy playing his penny slots in the evening. All the while it was still cold back home.
