Lloyd G. Sturdy
Age 98, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Silver Cross Hospital on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Born in Delavan, Wisconsin on August 4, 1917 and moved to Joliet at the age of 1 year old to become a lifelong resident. Lloyd was employed by Commonwealth Edison for 43 years, retiring in 1979 with his interests of fishing, hunting, travel, gardening, reading and enjoying his family. He resided for the last four years at the Inn of Willow Falls in Crest Hill.
He served as a Second Class Petty Officer in the US Navy, 75th Seabees Battalion, during WWII from 1942 to 1945 making life-long friends. His time in the service took him to the islands of the South Pacific, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Bougainville, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a life-member of Stone City Post VFW # 2199.
He was a member of the Maple Lawn Christian Church, now known as Crossroads Christian Church of Joliet for the last 40 years.
Survived by his only son, Leonard (Marlene,nee Scaccia) Sturdy; three grandchildren, Carrie (Kevin) Liebovich, Gregg (Kristy) Sturdy, Angela (Mike) Jaworski; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia Liebovich, Miles Liebovich, Elle Liebovich, Savana Sturdy, Lexi Jaworski, Jade Jaworski and Michael Jaworski. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Eleanor B. (nee Larson) Sturdy; his parents, Leonard and Cora Sturdy and by an infant daughter, Karen Beth.
Visitation for Lloyd Sturdy will be at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home and Crematory, 2320 Black Road Road, Joliet on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral Home chapel on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 10:00 am. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery.
