Lonnie A. Cooper of Joliet passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Edward Hospital in Naperville. Age 62.
He was a business owner of Fins and Feathers Pet Store in Crest Hill. He had a career at Kerr Glass from 1985 until it closed and then transferred to Ardagh Glass in Dolton, IL where he was still currently employed.
He was involved in Illinois Standard Bred Horseracing from 1987-1994. He was a proud owner of 2 Harness Racehorses: Lighting White and Explosive Gold. He played on many Joliet Park District softball leagues and bowled in leagues at Town & Country Lanes. As his sons were growing up, he coached basketball at Taft School and baseball at Rivals Park.
He loved listening to the band Journey and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He enjoyed playing pool and playing arcade games. He truly loved spending time with his family and getting together to cook out.
Preceded in death by his parents Robert and Opal (nee McNeal) Cooper; two sisters: Betty Janes and Roberta (Lorenzo) Lopez; two nephews: Tommie Cooper and Ritchie Cooper.
Survived by girlfriend Susan King; 4 children: Stephen (Sarah) Shields, Bryan Shields, Anne (Jonathan) Harmon, and Kevin Cooper; his ex-wife and mother to their 4 children Karen (nee Wrona) Cooper, siblings: Tony Janes, Millie Janes, Kathy Janes, Robert (Sandy) Cooper Jr, Richard (Kris) Cooper, and Frank Cooper; grandchildren: Harper, Micah, and Zoey Shields. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive as well as Susan's daughters: Alyssa (Tim) Diaz and Katlyn King along with Susan's grandchildren: TJ and Oliver Diaz.
Visitation for Lonnie A. Cooper will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, Joliet on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 11:00 AM until the service at 1:00 PM.
Cremation rites were accorded.
