Obituary

Marie R. MacZura (nee Plisich)

On Friday, March 8th, 2024, she shed her earthly body and made a graceful exit after a sudden illness. She was surrounded by the love of her family. Today and forever, she flies free.

Marie entered this world on September 25, 1954, in Joliet, IL, born to the late Raymond and Alvera Plisich (nee Cassani). Her educational journey began at St. Patrick's Grade School and continued at St. Francis Academy. She pursued her passion for pharmaceuticals at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy, earning her degree in 1977.

Throughout her illustrious career, Marie dedicated herself to serving the Joliet and Lockport communities and with Joliet Hospice as a pharmacist. Her days were spent behind the pharmacy counter, while her nights and weekends were devoted to delivering prescriptions, regardless of weather conditions, ensuring the well-being of those she served.

Marie was not only a proficient pharmacist but also a fervent reader, consuming at least five books a week. Her culinary prowess was unmatched, often infusing her dishes with an abundance of butter or bacon, though she never quite mastered the art of yeast dough. She found solace in games like Candy Crush, completing an impressive 14,000 levels. Gardening brought her joy, despite her disdain for weeding, and she delighted in crafting yard art from an eclectic array of found objects, each piece a token of her affection for her loved ones.

A woman of strength and conviction, Marie was known for her candidness, humor, and sharp intellect. She generously shared her medical knowledge, often becoming the "on call doctor" and a trusted confidante to many. Her vibrant personality infused the world around her with color and vitality.

Marie is survived by her beloved husband George, her son Raymond, daughter-in-law Christine, granddaughters Grace and Serena, sisters Nancy Plisich and Patti Barnett, as well as numerous other relatives, friends, and cherished pets. She was preceded in death by her son Georgie and her parents Raymond and Alvera Plisich.

Visitation to honor Marie's life will be held at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, 706 N. Broadway St., on Friday, May 3rd, at 9:00 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of choice in Marie's memory will be appreciated.
