Obituary

Mark Le Hew, born April 14, 1952, died December 26, 2020. He is survived by his wife Cindy; his children Wade (Samantha) Le Hew and Colby (Ross) Le Hew; his three grandsons Connor, Charlie, and Spencer; and his siblings Larry (Diane) Le Hew and Janice (Curt) Rainwater. He is preceded by death by his parents Lorena & Charles and his brother Brad (Geri). Mark was a systems programmer at Omnicell and was one of the first coders to convert the original coding language to what is now considered standard C++. He worked long hours on the road and gave his kids and wife all the comforts he could afford. Mark was an avid reader of all types of books but was especially fond of fiction novels. He was extremely sentimental about keepsakes that reminded him of friends and family. As a young adult, he participated in many sports including football, track, rugby, go-karting, and fencing. While he did not enjoy professional sports, he attended every game he could of his kids. Mark was a very social person and would chat anyone up who was willing to lend an ear. He was never dry or void of conversation, laughter, and thought. Mark could easily be identified in large crowds due to his iconic trapper hat that never parted from his head. As a child, he wrote that he wanted to grow up to be a cowboy which explains why his biggest joy in life was taking care of his horses including Outy, Savage, and Cooty. His sense of style was predominantly western themed which reflected his passion for horses and the old west. Mark was proud of his service in the Army and National Guard and was stationed in Korea as a peacekeeper between North and South Korea. In his later years, he traveled the world visiting Puerto Rico, Spain, and Portugal, as well as enjoyed cruises to The Virgin Islands, Belize, and many more. He lived an amazing life that was full of family adventure and love. He will truly be missed. Local friends and family are invited to attend a memorial at Carlson Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home in Joliet on January 24, 2020, from 1:00-3:00 pm. A burial service will be held at the Davenport Arsenal in Spring or Summer celebrating his life and his service to those around him.
